A plea for assistance

Work has begun on getting this place back up and running...

... and one of the first things that had to be done was the renewal of domains and certificates... *shudder*

This led to a good look at how this place is doing financially and it seemed like a good place to start asking for help. (and yes, we really need help) So it's time for the annual, please give us some money speech. (sing along if you know the words).

This site is financially supported by Renee and myself along with viewers like you! Since we have had no real updates in six months, I'm assuming that if you're reading this, you are one of our die-hard LIL family. Your support is not only appreciated right now, but genuinely essential.

As of this writing, we have 12 people, who every month contribute a small $10 (or in few cases $20) donation. Many of these subscribers have been doing this for years and years. These are essential to keep this place going, and I think we all owe them a debt of thanks for their dedication and generosity. There have been many months where this site would have closed had it not been for their ongoing commitment.

Every month we get an occasional one time donation generally ranging from $10 to $100. Combined with our monthly subscribers, we are currently generating around $225 / month currently.

So some general info about this place... bear with me M&R girls... this is real math, not that silly stuff we teach you.

If you average across an entire year the cost of running this community, adding in all the bits and pieces including: domain names, certificates, server cost and add-on modules (such as the chat feature), it costs us just shy of $5000 a year to keep this place going. That's approximately $416 per month.

As you can see we're falling about $175 short every month.

The good news is, we're more than halfway covered by donations. The bad news is, the difference is starting to hurt quite a bit. Right now, Ren and I are investing $2000 a year to keep this place here for all of you to play in. We've been doing this for quite a while now and I have no regrets. Unfortunately, we can't keep up that level of support for very much longer. Our family dynamic is getting ready to change in an expensive way... (possibly more on that in an upcoming post and good Goddess is it expensive)... and we just can not continue to provide that level of support.

...and so we turn to you... our LIL family... asking you: how important is this place to you?

Subscriptions to this place make all the difference. Single donations are awesome, but we rely... we DEPEND... on those little recurring $10 or $20 monthly funds. They're dependable and they make this place self sufficient. So again I ask, how important is this place to you? How much time do you spend here? Do you use it more than Netflix? Pandora? Playstation Plus? Or any of the countless other little monthly subscriptions that these other entertainment technologies use to survive?

It only takes a handful of this community chipping in together to make this place completely self sustaining... but it DOES require that handful.

Please remember, we're not trying to make money off of this place. As nice as it would be to have this an extra income source, that is not the purpose. All donations towards this site go right back into paying for this place to exist and always have for over a decade now. If you care about this place, please really think about contributing on a monthly basis.

Love you all and stay tuned for some update info.

Ohmmmgoooood just another couple of years if everything goes ok then I'll finally have a job and my own money, and I really wanna make up for everything! I've Been here for 3 years now, and I plan on staying for more, and every time there is a call for help like this it kills me inside not to be able to make even a small donation :(

Emma Peel's picture

I really wish I could help out, but currently I don't have the freedom to donate. As some of my friends know that will change in the not too distant future and I will certainly review my financial situation then, and give as much as I can. I love this place! It's the Misses that make it such a hit!

Nobody can force feminise me! I'm a volunteer

Hey there, oh fearless leader. I may be on a fixed income and unable to contribute monthly, I can send a one time donation. I may be a Moderator, but I feel that is not nearly enough to show how much I cherish this place. Therefore, please accept the $60 donation I made with PayPal. My life would be much drabber and pedestrian without this place and I challenge everyone who plays here to send something, no matter how small. It is the right thing to do.

Love you and this glorious sandbox, Melissa may it continue.

Aw, Gal! Probably just residual Gilmore Girls emotion, but you just made me tear up. Thanks for being awesome! *kisses*

Have you done your affirmation today, pretty girl?

Regina N's picture

Hi beautiful ladies. Firstly I must say a big Thankyou to you for providing this site. I have contributed to the short story and caption pages and probably use the site daily. Unfortunately my wife knows of all my monetary transactions but I will definitely look into ways of contributing in the near future. I am not sure what I would do if this site folded and I will do my best to help. Thanks for the hard work that you put in and please keep it up.
Love and hugs. Regina.

I guess the government subsidy is going to end soon.

What!!!! There’s no government subsidy?!? Well maybe the new, nah . . . I don’t think so.

I’d love to do one of those matching things. You know . . . Steffy has agreed to match dollar for dollar the next $1,000 dollars of contributions. Sigh.

BUT Steffy does agree to match the first donor who throws in a monthly donation of $10/month. (I’ve already done my part in anticipation).

PS Being a veteran of contribution campaigns, I can repeat by rote ‘certainly you get more satisfaction out of being here than your weekly latte.’ What? You have more than one latte a week? Well then . . .

melissa's picture

Thanks Steff! Kiss

Jessica01's picture

I will match you. And what I would also like to do is snowball that sentiment. If another person comes along, I will match them as well. Perhaps they would be bold enough to pass on that challenge?

sissy_gena's picture

Well, I wasn't going to specify how much I just donated since I didn't want to seem competitive or anything, but if you're matching it: I made a one-time donation of $50 Canadian. (Which apparently works out to $68 & change U.S. Was a bit surprised to see there was that much of a discrepancy now...)

I'm afraid I won't be able to match others' donations, and I may not be able to donate every month, but I hope that helps.

EDIT: Oops, I had the exchange backwards; I actually gave $50 US.

I donate every month. Without fail. I have for quite some time. I don't subscribe because I'm an old guy. I'm going to keel over dead one of these days. And then my survivors would need to become involved in stopping the subscription, probably learning about my secret in the process. So I do it monthly. It's the same amount of money either way. Please don't look on me like a second class LiL citizen just because I don't donate with a subscription.

Now playing in the new Lacy Place area and loving it. Come join us.

melissa's picture

Wouldn't dream of it Jacqueline. Thanks for always being there!

I would like to say to Miss Melissa, that I believe you do extraordinary work, as do the people/characters who work so hard to make this place so interesting. My habit is to make mental notes every time I see something worth donating to. Last month it was Video Games (yes I'm super new), Swimming in the Pool and The Lacy Place in general. This month it will likely be in thanks to some exceptional characters I have had the pleasure of playing with so far at Lacy, not the least of whom was Jacqueline. I have also very recently discovered a thread authored by Miss Lorelei, which in my opinion was pure genius. If you would like to thank someone for my donations, please thank these individuals and not me (and maybe point me in the direction of where I can find more!?!)

I can subscribe, and will be happy to do so if it affords you an added level of stability. As I promised above I can add on 20/month to your current intake to start.

My financial situation is not yet at a point where I can donate on a regular basis. But I do understand the need. So I pledge to do enough one time donations to total at least $120 per year, the equivalent of the monthly $10.

I'm anxiously staying tuned awaiting upcoming announcements.

Felicia Wood's picture

I have donated $50.00 towards this wonderful site. It is a magical place, filled with great friends, and it allows me to share my captions of feminine desire, as well as express my secret desires for the boys to catch me and make me be their girlfriend (blush).

"My name is... Felicia... and, um... I'm not supposed to... play... with BOYS!!!"

I plan on subscribing once I get a steady income going. And a steady income is a primary goal, so you can be sure I'm hoping to get this ball a'bouncing sooner rather than later!

In the meantime, I'm considering doing commissions for LiL members, with 100% of the money going to Locked in Lace. I like making digital drawings, and I'd love to get a commissions thingy going for people who want a little something special for their profiles x]
I'm not a super amazing talented mega-artist or anything, but I can make cute stuff... or sexy stuff! Rawrrr ;)

But anyhoo, I'll need to learn how to conduct this sort of business. If anyone here has experience with the business of commissions please send me a message!

Lots of Love, Locked in Lace!

I just wanted to say a special thank you to everyone who has donated, contributed or offered well wishes in the endeavor of raising money for this place. It is truly heartwarming and encouraging just how many people have made this little site their home. Thank you to everyone!

I've pledged $10. a month if I did it right. I'm not very digital. Let me know if I'm wrong and I'll try again.

This is a new experience for me and I'm liking it! Feelings were a mystery for me most of my life and my feeling of freedom here is, what, amazing? Exciting? Liberating? I can't find a *single* word to describe it. Bless you for doing this!

I've not been on the site much at all recently. I will need to check paypal, but I should be one of those from whom you are receiving monthly checks. When I review my donations, I will increase them. I would like to share with you what this site has meant to me.

I remember when I first arrived (I think it was the previous iteration, but it may have been two back) I read the introduction page. I think it was the first time I had seen the word transgender. (The page has since changed). I stared at the word and my first thought was ... "Well, that's not me" ... followed by a click through to the site. What I found beyond that curtain was nothing short of amazing. I first lost myself telling stories in both M&R and Lacy and after some time began to participate in OOC conversations. I discovered that I was not alone. It was not long before I would hit that flash page and think .... well ... that might be me.
This site was the first place that I came out to a community, and it allowed me to come out to myself. It's the place that I first saw other girls, had drinks with them, danced at the bar until the sun came up ... where i worked and played with them. It's the place that I first "saw" a GCS performed and sat in a recovery room with the girl, newly born, as she took her first painful steps in the world. I go to see a sister tomorrow two days after her procedure. She's asked for a Starbuck's Cinnamon dolce latte which I will happily provide. As I sit with her, I will look back on a long chain of women with whom I have similarly sat. And that chain extends right back to our own dear Whitney who was so wonderfully creative and who brought that procedure to life for me that first time so long ago.
This site has been a part of my story ... my real life story. One that is not completely written, but which becomes richer and more wonderful every day. I live now as a visible trans woman in a world that is not always welcoming to us, and that is infinitely better than the small dark closet that I occupied before I came here. That first click through ... that ... "Well, that's not me" moment. ... I didn't realize it at the time, but that was me cracking open the door and letting the light in. It was only a matter of time before I stepped through to live in that light.

So yes Melissa. You have my donation and you will continue to have my donation whether I am here writing anymore or not. Thank you and Ren both for creating this space and allowing people like me to find our true selves here.
With Much Love

Previously I was subscribed at a higher figure but now I'm only doing 5 per month. I know it's very little but I post stories on here that would never otherwise see the light of day or the eye of a reader. For that I feel I owe you more than 5 per. I've made friends and (somehow) learned more about myself. I hope to be able to increase subscription in four months. Otherwise I will likely make the odd single donation.

I love the whole idea of this place, the family aspect and sharing.
With the number of readers hitting this site it's a shame fewer donate.

I hope your financial state improves, but I understand that you can't keep putting the burden on yourselves.
